| Hutchinson Art Center receives generous gift of a Birger Sandzen Painting. | |
"Wild Horse Creek" Birger Sandzen |
The Hutchinson Art Center received a generous donation by the family of Maurine Crutcher, in memory of her life and efforts as a Kansas School Teacher. The family donated a Birger Sandzen painting from Mrs. Crutcher's personal art collection. It is entitled "Wild Horse Creek" and will be prominently displayed in our permanent collection at the H.A.C. This is a wonderful gift not only for the members of the art association but for the population of Hutchinson and Reno County. The piece will compliment the existing collection of Birger Sandzen pieces on display in the permanent collection gallery. The Hutchinson Art Center staff, Board of Directors, and members would like to graciously thank the family of Maurine Crutcher: John W. Crutcher (brother) Sally Thompson (sister), Laura Thompson (niece), and nephews Randy Thompson and Dan R. Rouser. |
| Hutchinson Art Center teams up with U.S.D. 309 After School Program | |
The Hutchinson Art Center has teamed up with the U.S.D. 309 After School program to provide art education opportunities to their students. This cooperative program is the result of a 5 year grant that the U.S.D. 309 After School Program received towards the end of 2008. Students have explored the world of acrylic paints, mural painting, and ceramics so far, with projects in printmaking, still life drawing, and sculpture being completed through the spring of 2009. This is a great opportunity for both programs and students have learned much explore the wonderful space that is the Hutchinson Art Center, and we look forward to future projects in the fall of 2009 and beyond!!!! |

| Spring 2009 Art Classes A Smashing Success!!!!! | |
The spring semester art classes at the Hutchinson Art Center are off to a smashing success! We have full enrollment in almost all classes, with many forming a waiting list for students wanting to participate in our spring arts program. Classes are offered for Home School Jr. / Sr. High, Home School Elementary, Saturday Supermix Jr. (Elementary Classes), and Supermix (Jr. / Sr. High School aged). Students are exploring the world or art, through drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and many other media. All students are constructing portfolios and artists sketchbooks as part of the class curriculum. A healthy round of thanks go out to our Board of Directors who have been supporting the vision of the staff of the Hutchinson Art Center, as well as the financial support of our members, patrons, and the Hutchinson Community Foundation for their efforts and support. |
